Dusk on a summer’s evening in Cockermouth’s Market Place

Cockermouth is a wonderful place to take a break.

As well as being a destination in itself, with fine georgian architecture and Cumbrian charm, the town is only a short journey away from many of the finest parts of the Lake District.   The town itself has many coffee shops, restaurants, a micro brewery, and many other attractions, including Wordsworth’s House.

Cockermouth is a great value way to “do” the Lake District.

The nearby Solway Firth coast is one of Cumbria’s best kept secrets.

The scene to the right is a short drive from No. 26;  at the beach off Crosscanonby.   On a clear night you can see the Scottish coast line, as here.

Of course, the Lake District itself is not far away.

A picturesque drive leads to locations such as Ullswater, seen here on a blustery summer’s day from the pier for the Ullswater Steamer
